| Jun. 9th, 2004 01:17 am Still alive Just to let anyone who is actually reading this know that I *am* going to start this soon, honest.
The entry on Welcome to the Hellmouth/The Harvest is in final stages of proof reading, and should be posted in the next day or two. It would have been done weeks and weeks ago, but unfortunately real life got in the way.
I shall be putting these essays behind cuts, as they will probably be stupidly long - this first one is over 2000 words. Leave a comment |

| Mar. 28th, 2004 12:01 am Why this is here Recently I have been reading Dusted - the (latest) unofficial guide to Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Now, while this is not a bad book, and serves its purpose, such as it is (an extended episode guide) it was not what I was hoping for. Now that the series has finished, episodes can be looked at with the big picture in mind, threads can be drawn together, links can be made. I was hoping for a detailed analysis of each episode, and I didn't get one, just a brief overview.
I didn't get what I wanted. So I decided to do it myself.
Over the next few months or perhaps years i'm going to watch each of the episodes in turn, and write a review of each one. This will give my thoughts on how the episode fits into the mythology of Buffy, its high points and low points and whether or not it's actually any good. I will attempt to pick up on hints left in early episodes which highlight issues in later ones. I will try and gain insight into the characters, thier motivations and psychological issues. What I will not be doing is talking in detail about the specifics of plot in each episode (unless it is important to the point i'm trying to make). I'm sure anyone interested enough to read this has already seen all the episodes in question, and if not, well there's a plethora of internet episode guides out there, as well as books like Dusted.
